This is my 10th(!) chocolate bark recipe on the blog so far and it might just be one of my favourites! It's sweet, it's salty, it's smooth and it's crunchy, and it makes the BEST sweet snack.

With just 2 main ingredients and a tonne of other mix-in or topping options, this recipe is easy to customise to your liking. Whether you want to add a handful of mini marshmallows or stick some M&Ms on top, the choice is yours!

Below you'll find my top tips, ingredient notes, and step-by-step instructions with photos. I hope you find it helpful. If you prefer to get straight to the quick, condensed version of the recipe, scroll to the recipe card at the end of the post. Enjoy!

    Ingredients and equipment

    • White chocolate: Of course, we need white chocolate to make this bark! Any type will work well. Milky Bar is a good one to use but cheaper, supermarket-brand white chocolate works really well too.
    • Pretzels: Pretzels will add a nice crunch to the bark as well as a hint of salt. I used Penn State pretzels but feel free to use your favourite type.
    • Baking tray: Any size! The great thing about bark is that you can make the slab as big or as small as you like.
    • Baking paper: To easily peel the bark off of the tray.
    • Bowl and utensils: You'll need a heatproof bowl or saucepan to melt the chocolate, a tablespoon for mixing, and a sharp knife to cut the bark.

How to make white chocolate pretzel bark

Step 1: Start by lining a baking tray with baking paper, ready to put your bark on.

Step 2: Break 300g of white chocolate into segments then add it to a heatproof bowl or saucepan. Melt the chocolate slowly until there are no lumps left. If you're using the microwave, take it out every 20-30 seconds and mix it to prevent it from seizing. If you prefer to use a saucepan, keep the heat low and stir it gently.

Step 3: Measure out 70g of salted pretzels and crush them up into medium-sized chunks. You can set aside a few for the topping if you like but you should know that they'll go soft after a few days.

Step 4: Add the crushed pretzels to the melted white chocolate and mix well. Make sure that all the pretzels are coated with chocolate.

Step 5: Transfer the pretzels to your lined tin and spread it out to make a small rectangular shape. Add more pretzel pieces on top if using.

Step 6: Let the bark set then cut or break it into shards and enjoy!

    Top tips

    • Use white chocolate bars rather than white chocolate chips. They melt much better and are less likely to seize or burn.
    • Make sure to crush your pretzels up before you add them to the chocolate. If the mixture is too chunky, it can cause chunks of the pretzels to fall out when you're breaking up the bark.
    • If you want your bark to last for a few weeks, don't add any pretzels on top of it. When they're not completely coated in chocolate, they will become soft quite quickly.

    Other mix-in ideas

Here are some other treats you can mix into your bark...

    • Mini marshmallows
    • Turkish delight
    • Honeycomb
    • Nuts such as almonds, walnuts or pecans
    • Fruits like glace cherries or dried apricots

    FAQ

How long can I store this recipe for?

You can keep it for up to 3 weeks so long as there are no pretzel pieces on the top. Make sure to store it in an airtight container, either in a cool, dry place such as a kitchen cupboard or in the fridge.

Can I freeze white chocolate pretzel bark?

Yes. You can freeze this bark for up to 3 months. Just wrap the whole slab up in clingfilm or place the pieces into airtight containers or freezer bags. If you want to stop the pieces from sticking together, you can pre-freeze them on a baking tray first.

Is it better to let chocolate bark set at room temperature or in the fridge?

While both ways will work fine, setting it at room temperature is best, especially if you want to gift it or sell it. Setting it in the fridge may cause sugar bloom which will cause a white film to appear on top. However, this does not affect the flavour or texture.
